Nutrition for growth and development
A healthy foal already starts in the womb. From approximately 8 months of gestation, the foal has a major growth spurt in the belly and needs sufficient building materials to develop properly. The mare also needs extra nutrients. The growth and development of the foal requires a lot of energy, protein and the necessary vitamins, minerals and trace elements. The foal largely obtains this from nutrition via the umbilical cord. In addition, the mare's own reserves are used. Even after birth, the mare and foal need good building materials and vitamins during the intensive nursing period.
